Eagle festivals in Mongolia
Here on this post we would give information about eagle festivals in Mongolia.
Kazakhs in the far western Mongolia have been organizing eagle festival to keep the 2000 years old eagle hunting tradition alive. It is being organized for about 20 years now. Which really helps the culture to stay on and many young generation attracted by this fascinating hunting culture with eagles. In the past eagle hunters used to hunt animals for living and of course for fun. For living eagle hunters used to hunt animals and trade the animal fur,
Nowadays eagle hunters are not doing this for living. They just like it!
Being eagle hunter is not easy as seen on the photos; hunting only in winter, when the the weather is -30 -50 Celsius with strong wind up on the mountains, and enjoying it!
So there are 5 different eagle festivals in Mongolia in a year!
Some are pretty small, some are huge with many tourists and locals.
Every year there is one being held by Lake Tolbo (from 2019 they are organizing it near Tolbo lake) by second weekend of September. When you compare it with its popularity it is being the second main eagle festival in the Western Mongolia.
and by 3rd weekend of september there is a pretty smaller eagle festival (smaller: i mean comparing by number of participants and popularity) near Ulaankhus village, Bayan Ulgii Mongolia. it is to the west of Ulgii city, about 50kms.
and there is another pretty small one day eagle festival kind of activity near Sagsai village by 29th of September each year. 29th is a fixed day for each year.
Then the main eagle festival comes, which held by first weekend of October each year. This is the main eagle festival which is organized by the sponsorship of Local government administration and eagle hunters association. and there is one more..
This eagle festival would be organized near the capital city Ulaanbaatar by 5th and 6th of March each year! Lots of locals and many foreigners would enjoy this eagle festival. Comparing to the October one, on this March eagle festival there would be around 20 eagle hunters (only) participates.
